Back in June 2016, LIB reported about a woman named Bara'atu who cut off the genital of her step son - named Buhari Muhammad out of 'jealousy' in Minna, Niger State. She used a sharp knife to cut off his penis and the cry of the baby attracted neighbours, who rushed to the place and found him in a pool of blood. She made an attempt to abscond but was overpowered by people around and handed over to the police, while the baby was taken to the IBB Specialist Hospital in Minna. She was arraigned on a one count of attempted homicide before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Minna and remanded in prison. Four members of a family who allegedly poured hot water on a tenant have been arraigned in court. The culprits, Adwoa Kumaniwaa 60, Gifty Mensah 35, Hagar Mensah 31, Irene Appiah 16 recently appeared at the Kade District Magistrate Court for pouring hot water on a tenant, Elizabeth Gyamfuaa after assaulting her at Akyem Wenchi in the Eastern Region. The victim has since been discharged from the Akyem Wenchi Salvation Army Health Centre. Narrating the sad incident to the Mirror, a police source said that Gyamfuaa rented a room belonging to Kumaniwaa at Sanaahene, a suburb of Akyem Wenchi. A little misunderstanding ensued between Adwoa and Gyamfuaa which nearly developed into a fight. Adwoa subsequently informed the conduct of Gyamfuaa to her daughter, Gifty, who stormed the house at Wenchi and angrily confronted Gyamfuaa about the issue. Nigerian national Chijioke Stephen Obioha is set to be executed in Singapore on November 18, Amnesty International reported on Thursday. Mr. Obioha was sentenced to death on December 30, 2008 after being arrested on April 9, 2007 for the possession of cannabis. He was found with over 2.6 kilograms of cannabis, an offense which, under Singapore law, mandates the death penalty. Mr. Obioha appealed his sentence in August 2010, maintaining his innocence, but the court refused to commute his death penalty down to a prison sentence. According to Amnesty International, in Singapore, the burden of proof lies on the defendant rather than the prosecutor. The human rights organization explained that this is a violation of the right to a fair trial. He has since filed an appeal to clemency. Amnesty International is urging human rights activists to petition the Singapore government to grant Mr. Obioha clemency.
