Lassa Fever: Ekiti Teaching Hospital Takes
Measures To Curtail Spread

The Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido- Ekiti, has put
in place different measures to curtail the spread of
Lassa fever including the infection disease control
and isolation centre for patients in Ekiti State.
The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr.
Lawrence Majekodunmi, appealed to the state and
Federal Government as well as members of the
Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria to intensify
efforts in providing medical care for Lassa fever
patients.
The Chairman of the Pharmaceutical Society of
Nigeria, Olabisi Durojaiye, who visited the Chief
Medical Director with his members, promised to
ensure quality of drugs and medical care for
patients.
Mr Durojaiye added that the only life lost so far at
the State University Teaching Hospital in Ado Ekiti,
has not been confirmed to have died of Lassa
fever.
The State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, urged all
concerned Nigerians to join forces to fight the
dangerous disease to avoid further spread of the
virus across the state and Nigeria at large.
The Ekiti State Commissioner for Health, Dr.
Olurotimi Ojo, confirmed a case of Lassa Fever on
Monday, January 18, 2016.
Dr Ojo said that the patient, an 18-year-old female
student of the School of Nursing at the Federal
Teaching Hospital in Ido-Ekiti, is currently on
admission at the hospital and in stable condition.
